Hakuba info from other boarders and skiiers

Mission: Hakuba 2007
By skijay 4 Mar 2007
Hello snowbunniez, Here is some useful info on Hakuba that we gleaned from some other boarders and skiiers. Some of this would have been useful for us to know from the beginning!

1. Quietest days are Wednesday to Friday. Weekends are usually busy, and Mondays and Tuesdays see school groups come in.
2. Best time to go, snow-wise, is late Feb/Early March.
3. Christmas and New Year get very busy.
4. Tsugaike is one of the lesser known mountains and had excellent snow cover from top to bottom, and didn't get crowded. There is no shuttle bus to get there - take a taxi.
5. Happo One suprisingly didn't get very busy on the weekend.

Hope that helps!

4. is incorrect. Tsugaike is very popular among locals who know. It's a fantastic resort for beginners with many wide open groomed runs. The backcountry is easily accessed by those in the know, there's a heli link service that operates in Spring and offers 2 terrain parks. There are no a lot of difficult piste runs, but plenty of off piste and backcountry. The main runs and Gondola can get very crowded on holidays and event days. (up to 60 min lift lines) There is a shuttle bus which runs from Happo One car park (in front of Gondola Station) to Tsugaike 4 times a day and goes via Iwatake. There's only 2 buses in the morning and 2 buses in the afternoon. (cost ¥200) or sometimes free.
