Transport around Hakuba

Mission: Hakuba 2007

Getting to and from the main resorts from Happo is reasonably simple, but you have to be organised. Free shuttle buses run from a few stops around Happo (the stop we used was the Mominoki hotel) to Goryu Escal Plaza, Goryu Iimori station, Hakuba 47, and Iwatake. Buses to resorts leave at 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 and return generally at 3, 4 and 5pm. There are later buses from Goryu Escal Plaza as well (8pm and 9:30pm).

Goryu resort has two main areas - Escal plaza, and Iimori station. They are situated right next to each other and you can usually board easily from one area to another as the runs are parallel. Be warned though - if you miss the last chairlifts and don't make it across to the other area, it's nearly impossible to get there by foot on the road! We tried this and ended up getting hopelessly lost. Finally we hailed a taxi and paid almost AUD30 for a 10 minute taxi ride from Iimori station to Escal plaza!! It would definitely not have been walkable, and it was a very expensive mistake!

Taxis are an expensive option - to go from Happo to Goryu Escal plaza, a 15 or 20 minute ride, cost about AUD40.

There is also a "Genki Go" shuttle bus that passes by a number of stops around Happo, Hakuba and Echoland (a nearby village) and also stops at Goryu Escal Plaza. It costs 200Y per ride and only runs after 5:30pm. We only used this once, when we didn't realise there was a free shuttle home from Goryu.
