Day 4 Nozawa Onsen - Paradise
By
skijay 18 Feb 2009Yesterday was Day 3 - hump day for me - and the old legs took a beating, but seemed to recover a little after a soak in a very nice onsen at Taro hotel. After breakfast, as if on cue, the snowflakes came bucketing down like there was no tomorrow, and we were rewarded for the early start by fresh powder once again.
Yamabiko, being on the summit, became overcast very quickly and visibility was poor so I headed down to Uenotaira where there was great riding to be done in between the trees. Later I found wide stashes of undiscovered powder on Paradise, which we rode in the afternoon. The sun came out for a while, and Paradise was simply beautiful. The run overlooks some stunning mountain ranges, and I stopped to take photos in the middle.
We rode from 9am - 4pm today as it was our last day here in Nozawa Onsen. It's still dumping furiously outside but it is time to say goodbye and move on. All good things must come to an end - eventually. But I said Thank you to the snow god, if there is one, for granting me these 4 perfect days (well, 3 perfect days) in this beautiful region. Nozawa Onsen just might be my fave mountain so far.
